Why Body Shops and Mechanics Choose Core Auto Logic

BCMs control lighting, security, key authorization and immobilizer hand-off. A swap without programming locks the vehicle out, leaves accessories dead, or refuses to authorize the keys. We do VIN write and option-byte configuration in one visit.

What to have ready

Start with the information you have. We confirm the correct service and any additional requirements before work begins.

  • Your vehicle and symptomsSend the VIN or year, make, and model, what is happening, and any fault codes or previous repair attempts.
  • Your module detailsInclude a label photo or part number if available. Tell us whether you have the original module, a replacement, or both.
  • Onsite or mail-inFor onsite work, include your DFW service location. For mail-in work, wait for acceptance, the final quote, and shipping instructions before sending anything. Some work also requires setup on the vehicle.

A quote request does not confirm an appointment. We will confirm scope, price, and availability with you.

What happens next

From your request to completed work and documentation.

  1. Provide VIN, BCM Part Number, DTCs, and Failure HistoryTell us the VIN, BCM part number, stored DTCs, affected functions, and what happened before the fault (battery replacement, module swap, collision, water, or voltage event). We confirm scope and pricing in the quote response.

  2. Module IntakeFor mobile DFW service, we come to the vehicle. For mail-in BCM service, submit the request for review and wait for the accepted quote, receiving address, and instructions before shipping.

  3. Programming or CloneWe VIN-pair, write vehicle configuration, and configure all body-option bytes. Cloning jobs add the EEPROM transfer step. Water-damaged units go through repair before programming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Typical BCM or module cloning and programming is $200 for an eligible mail-in module. Customer-paid inbound shipping is separate, return shipping is included only in the accepted final quote, and do not ship before acceptance and instructions.
Yes, on most platforms. The donor BCM must be programmed to your VIN and reconfigured for your vehicle's option set. We handle the full re-provisioning. Note: some late-model platforms use security tokens that prevent used-module transfers - we confirm feasibility before you source the donor.
Yes. A BCM that did not complete initialization after programming or replacement may hold the CAN bus awake, keeping multiple modules from sleeping. We can identify the fault, reflash the sleep configuration, and verify the bus goes dormant after key-off.
Yes. We service body control modules on a wide range of European platforms including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche in addition to domestic brands. Platform-specific confirmation is provided at quote time.

Everything covered in this service

The agreed work is verified and documented before the job is completed.

VIN Pairing & Configuration Write
VIN
Every replacement or used BCM requires VIN writing, vehicle configuration data, and body-option setup via factory-level diagnostic software. We configure the complete module profile - not just the VIN.
BCM Cloning
CLONE
We read the EEPROM data from a failed BCM and transfer it to a replacement module, preserving VIN linkage, key fob codes, and learned calibration data without losing access to the vehicle.
Bench Repair for Physical Damage
BENCH
Water-damaged and voltage-spiked BCMs with repairable circuit-board faults are assessed and repaired at the component level, then reprogrammed - often at significant cost savings over a new module.
Mail-In BCM Service
MAIL
Mail-in BCM service is available nationwide after review. Send the VIN, part number, and feature details through the quote form so support can confirm the service path.
1-Year Unlimited Guarantee
GUARANTEE
All BCM programming and repair work is backed by our one-year unlimited-miles guarantee. If a programming defect surfaces, we fix it at no charge.

Common reasons customers book this service

Tap a card to see what triggers this service and which systems are affected.

When multiple body functions fail at once - power windows, central locking, exterior lights, horn, keyless entry - the fault is almost always in the body control module rather than individual actuator faults across multiple circuits.
A U0140 or similar "Lost Communication with Body Control Module" fault logged in multiple other modules indicates the BCM is no longer responding on the CAN bus. The module needs programming recovery, replacement, or VIN re-pairing.
A donor BCM carries the previous vehicle's VIN, key fob codes, and option-byte configuration. Installing it without VIN-pairing and configuration write results in inoperative keyless entry, possible no-start, and multiple warning lights.
A BCM that did not complete a full programming sequence may fail to enter sleep mode, keeping CAN bus modules awake indefinitely and draining the battery overnight. A re-flash and configuration reset corrects the sleep timer issue.
Flooded floorboards, power antenna moisture, or a voltage spike from jump-starting can damage BCM circuit boards. We assess for component-level repairability before recommending replacement.

BENCH PROGRAMMER
Alientech / Autotuner / Orange5 / Scanmatik / Flex / VVDI2 / PCMFlash / CGDI / X-Prog Used when the body module must be opened or handled on a harness instead of programmed in vehicle.
Bench access required Bench/chip-level only
Source basis: Bench programmer source packet for EEPROM, MCU, BCM, ECU, and module read/write documentation.

BCM Failure Indicators

Symptoms that point to a BCM that needs programming, repair or replacement. Often confused with electrical faults - the module is the actual cause.

Key Not Authorized
Push-to-start or remote start ignores the key fob, or the dash shows "key not detected" with a known-good fob. BCM is not paired correctly.
Lights or Accessories Dead
Headlights, interior lights, power windows or door locks dead after BCM replacement. New module needs option-byte configuration before functions enable.
No Communication With BCM
U0140 "Lost Communication With Body Control Module" - module is locked, has wrong VIN, or never received its initial flash.
Phantom Door Ajar / Trunk Open
Cluster reports doors open when they are closed, or false anti-theft triggers. Internal BCM fault that bench review can usually identify.
