About this service.

Why Body Shops and Mechanics Choose Core Auto Logic

BCMs control lighting, security, key authorization and immobilizer hand-off. A swap without programming locks the vehicle out, leaves accessories dead, or refuses to authorize the keys. We do VIN write, key re-pair and option-byte configuration in one visit.

BCM / GEM Programming
OEM software for Ford GEM, GM BCM, Chrysler TIPM/IPM, Toyota Body ECU, Honda MICU, VAG comfort modules and most European body controllers. VIN write and option-byte configuration covered.
OEM
Key Re-Pair Included
BCM swaps usually require re-pairing the existing keys to the new module via the immobilizer system. We handle that in the same visit - vehicle starts and authorizes correctly before we leave.
IMMO
Bench Programming Available
For mail-in service or pre-installation programming, we flash BCMs at the bench with full CAN simulation. Module arrives ready to install and start the vehicle.

Everything covered in this service

Every job is bench-tested, logged and documented. No guesswork, no try-and-see flashes.

VIN Pairing & Configuration Write
VIN
Every replacement or used BCM requires VIN writing, vehicle configuration data, and body-option setup via factory-level diagnostic software. We configure the complete module profile - not just the VIN.
BCM Cloning
CLONE
We read the EEPROM data from a failed BCM and transfer it to a replacement module, preserving VIN linkage, key fob codes, and learned calibration data without losing access to the vehicle.
Key Fob Pairing
KEYFOB
After a BCM swap, all key fobs must be re-paired to the new module. We pair all fobs and confirm keyless entry, remote start (if equipped), and trunk/liftgate operation.
Bench Repair for Physical Damage
BENCH
Water-damaged and voltage-spiked BCMs with repairable circuit-board faults are assessed and repaired at the component level, then reprogrammed - often at significant cost savings over a new module.
Mail-In Service - Nationwide
MAIL
Ship the BCM with the VIN and a description of the features you need restored. We program, test, and return with a full report. 2-4 business day turnaround.
1-Year Unlimited Guarantee
GUARANTEE
All BCM programming and repair work is backed by our one-year unlimited-miles guarantee. If a programming defect surfaces, we fix it at no charge.

BCM Failure Indicators

Symptoms that point to a BCM that needs programming, repair or replacement. Often confused with electrical faults - the module is the actual cause.

Key Not Authorized
Push-to-start or remote start ignores the key fob, or the dash shows "key not detected" with a known-good fob. BCM is not paired correctly.
Lights or Accessories Dead
Headlights, interior lights, power windows or door locks dead after BCM replacement. New module needs option-byte configuration before functions enable.
No Communication With BCM
U0140 "Lost Communication With Body Control Module" - module is locked, has wrong VIN, or never received its initial flash.
Phantom Door Ajar / Trunk Open
Cluster reports doors open when they are closed, or false anti-theft triggers. Internal BCM fault that bench review can usually identify.

Common reasons customers book this service

Tap a card to see what triggers this service and which systems are affected.

When multiple body functions fail at once - power windows, central locking, exterior lights, horn, keyless entry - the fault is almost always in the body control module rather than individual actuator faults across multiple circuits.
A U0140 or similar "Lost Communication with Body Control Module" fault logged in multiple other modules indicates the BCM is no longer responding on the CAN bus. The module needs programming recovery, replacement, or VIN re-pairing.
A donor BCM carries the previous vehicle's VIN, key fob codes, and option-byte configuration. Installing it without VIN-pairing and configuration write results in inoperative keyless entry, possible no-start, and multiple warning lights.
A BCM that did not complete a full programming sequence may fail to enter sleep mode, keeping CAN bus modules awake indefinitely and draining the battery overnight. A re-flash and configuration reset corrects the sleep timer issue.
A tripped anti-theft system that will not reset via the normal procedure typically means the BCM has latched a security state that requires programming tools to clear. We reset the security module state and re-pair key fobs.
Flooded floorboards, power antenna moisture, or a voltage spike from jump-starting can damage BCM circuit boards. We assess for component-level repairability before recommending replacement.

From quote to delivery

How we move a job from intake to fully programmed and verified.

  1. Describe Symptoms and Provide VINTell us what stopped working, what was done before the problem started (battery replacement, module swap, collision), and your VIN. We confirm scope and pricing in the quote response.
Describe Symptoms and Provide VIN - Core Auto Logic bcm-module-repair step 1
  2. Module IntakeFor mobile DFW service, we come to the vehicle. For mail-in, remove the BCM (typically behind the dash or in the driver footwell), pack it in anti-static wrap, and ship it - we provide return labeling.
Module Intake - Core Auto Logic bcm-module-repair step 2
  3. Programming or CloneWe VIN-pair, write vehicle configuration, and configure all body-option bytes. Cloning jobs add the EEPROM transfer step. Water-damaged units go through repair before programming.

  4. Return, Install, and Re-Pair Key FobsModule ships with a work report. Install it, re-pair your key fobs per the instructions we include, and verify that body functions are restored. Our tech support line is available for any post-install questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, on most platforms. The donor BCM must be programmed to your VIN and reconfigured for your vehicle's option set. We handle the full re-provisioning. Note: some late-model platforms use security tokens that prevent used-module transfers - we confirm feasibility before you source the donor.
The donor BCM is likely running the previous vehicle's immobilizer pairing and will not authorize start on your vehicle. This is a programming issue, not a mechanical one - we re-pair the BCM to your VIN and re-pair the ignition keys to restore start authorization.
We re-pair all key fobs as part of every BCM programming job. Bring all keys with you for mobile service or list all fob serial numbers on your mail-in form so we can verify pairing completeness before the module ships back.
Yes. A BCM that did not complete initialization after programming or replacement may hold the CAN bus awake, keeping multiple modules from sleeping. We can identify the fault, reflash the sleep configuration, and verify the bus goes dormant after key-off.
Yes. We service body control modules on a wide range of European platforms including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche in addition to domestic brands. Platform-specific confirmation is provided at quote time.
