When Chip-Level Service Is Required

Situations where standard OBD or J2534 programming will not solve the problem and chip-level access becomes the only path forward.

Bricked After Failed Flash
Module dropped communication mid-flash and now will not respond to OBD. Recovery requires chip-level access to restore the boot sector.
Locked Module / No OBD Access
Anti-tamper protection or factory security access denies the standard programming path. Chip-level read/write bypasses the lock when the customer authorizes it.
Encrypted Boot / Secure Gateway
Modern modules require secure-gateway authentication that not every shop can complete. Chip-level service skips the network entirely.
Donor Module Mismatch
Used module locked to a different VIN or hardware variant. Chip-level write rebuilds the EEPROM to the correct parameters.

A failed OBD programming session, a write error mid-flash, or a module that lost power during programming can leave the chip in an unrecognized state. Bench-level EEPROM read/write recovers these modules without OBD connectivity.
Some modules require the original VIN security seed to accept an OBD flash. If the originating VIN is unknown or the module is second-hand, chip-level EEPROM access bypasses the seed barrier so the module can be read and re-provisioned.
Odometer data lives in EEPROM - sometimes on the instrument cluster, sometimes in the BCM, sometimes in both. If the displayed mileage is wrong due to a module swap or corruption, chip-level correction restores accurate data.
A corrupt tune file, a botched ECU flash, or a bin file that needs correction before programming can be addressed at the chip level without a running vehicle - we read the existing flash, correct the file, and write it back.
Immobilizer data stored in EEPROM - transponder codes, IMMO keys, and security seeds - can be transferred between modules or reset at the chip level for platforms where OBD-level IMMO work is not possible.

Usually yes. A bricked ECU from a failed flash typically has a readable chip with salvageable data. We read the existing content, repair or restore the base calibration file, and write it back. Success depends on whether the chip itself was physically damaged during the failed flash.
Sometimes. If the chip itself is intact and only the module's processor or power regulation has failed, we can desolder and read the EEPROM independently. If the storage chip is damaged, data recovery is not possible.
Yes. We can read, backup, and analyze tune files. We can repair corrupt bin files and re-flash a corrected version. We do not write unlicensed tunes - if you provide the corrected calibration file, we handle the flash.
We can read and restore odometer EEPROM data on supported platforms. Note: mileage correction to reflect the vehicle's true mileage after a legitimate module swap is the scope of this work - this is not an odometer rollback service.
Wrap the PCB in anti-static foam or anti-static bag, then in bubble wrap. Do not use plain styrofoam or crinkled paper directly against the board. Place in a rigid box. Include the VIN and a brief description of the work needed on paper inside the box.
