About this service.

Why Collision Shops Route Radar Work to Core Auto Logic

Millimeter-wave radar aim tolerances are tighter than anything you can see or feel on the bumper. Every front or corner radar disturbed in repair needs a measured re-aim.

How we plan this service

Reviewed service-source signals help us choose the access path, intake details, and calibration workflow before the job starts.

ADAS calibration TIER A RENDERABLE FACT

Static vs dynamic procedure planning

Exact-year release rows confirm that late-model ADAS work can require a mix of target-board setup, subscription-gated static routines, and manufacturer drive cycles.

Module family
Forward camera and radar systems
Access method
Target setup plus road procedure when required
Workflow
Static or dynamic calibration
What to send

Send the VIN, repair operation, alignment status, tire size changes, and whether a windshield, bumper, sensor, or suspension component was replaced.

Diagnostics and secure gateway access TIER A RENDERABLE FACT

Secure gateway and DoIP checks

Some late-model ADAS and diagnostic sessions require secure authorization or Ethernet diagnostics before calibration routines can be completed.

Module family
Late-model networked ADAS
Access method
Secure gateway, DoIP, or OEM authorization may be required
Workflow
Authorization and diagnostic session planning
What to send

Confirm the VIN, module being calibrated, battery support availability, and whether previous scans mention gateway, DoIP, or seed-key access.

Failure Indicators

Symptoms that point to a radar out of aim after bumper, grille, or quarter work.

ACC Tracks the Wrong Car
Adaptive cruise locks onto vehicles in adjacent lanes or sets follow distance wrong.
Ghost Braking
AEB or collision warnings trigger on overpasses, signs, or empty road.
Radar Blocked Message
Cluster reports the radar obstructed with a clean, undamaged fascia.
Blind-Spot False Alerts
Corner radars flag phantom vehicles - or miss real ones - after rear-end work.

Common reasons customers book this service

Tap a card to see what triggers this service and which systems are affected.

Removing the bumper cover or grille disturbs the front radar mounting angle. Adaptive cruise and collision mitigation need a re-aim after reinstall to restore factory follow-distance and braking thresholds.
Corner radars live behind the rear fascia. Bumper R&R, quarter repair, or refinish work over the radar zone shifts their aim and can attenuate the signal - both need verification before delivery.
A new radar arrives unaimed, and lift kits, lowering, or heavy suspension work change the beam angle relative to the road. Both require the factory aiming procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Platform-dependent. Many front radars take a static aim against a reflector or fixture at a measured position; others self-align on a dynamic drive; plenty require both. Corner radars have their own procedures. We run whichever method the OEM specifies for your exact vehicle.
Yes. Excess paint film, body filler, or non-OEM brackets in front of a radar can attenuate or skew the beam even when the aim is mechanically correct. If the signal path is compromised, the calibration results will show it and we flag it before delivery.
If the fascia over the radar zone was removed or refinished, verification is the safe answer. Several OEMs explicitly require blind-spot radar calibration after rear bumper R&R; all of them expect the radar aim to be inside tolerance, which only the procedure can confirm.
A single front radar static aim typically runs 45-90 minutes on-site. Corner radar pairs and combined camera-plus-radar jobs run longer; dynamic drive cycles add 30-60 minutes where required.
It works just well enough to be dangerous: adaptive cruise locks onto the wrong vehicle or brakes for overpasses, AEB triggers late or not at all, blind-spot zones shift off the actual lane. The system rarely flags itself - the calibration is what proves it.
